New Leaf Records released recordings by bands at Sawtry Village College, a comprehensive secondary school and adult education centre in Cambridgeshire, between 1982 and 1987. New Leaf Records continues to this day as the umbrella name for a number of associated independent labels.
The names New Leaf Records and Leaves Music arose from the college's award-winning Leaves magazine. Originally it had been the intention for the college band Mithrandir to record a flexidisc to give away with Leaves, but a comparison of costs led to the conclusion that a "real" commercially-available vinyl E.P. was the way to go.
Singles by Mithrandir, The Blue Mist, Ramblin' Rod and The Legacy were released subsequently.
